**UPDATE! From Spence**
Paul was released from the trauma center on Sunday afternoon, much to the protests & chagrin of his parents. He has a titanium rod & 2 large screws holding his left femur together. Our fears were realized on the ride home, when after hitting a small bump in the road, we needed to transfer Paul from Kelly's car to Paul's van floor to keep his leg straight & non-weight bearing. Currently, a very thin & pale patient is home, resting semi-comfortably and receiving outstanding care from nurse Kelly. The prognosis is good but Paul will be on crutches for 2 to 3 months & will be doing in-home physical therapy / power resting.

Cindy & I are off to find Paul a recliner for future pain medicine-free reading & kingdom commanding. We will send updates when anything news worthy happens.

To All,

A very good friend of ours and many of the members on 3HYC broke his femur in 4 places on Sunday. Pauly Spencer is a river raft guide and was hiking down an really sketchy trail with his kayak and apparently there are two really gnarly spots that if you slip you are in big trouble. He slipped and managed to get away from the kayak, but fell about 20 ft and shattered his femur in 4 places.

He has been in the hospital since Sunday (7/26/2009) and is going to have to be there for a few more days. They put a large rod down the inside of his femur and he is recovering now.

Needless to say his bill is going to be steep, and since his livelihood depends on being mobile he is not going to be able to generate cash for some time.

3HYC would appreciate all charitable donations to help our good friend get back on his feet and put this accident behind him!

Thanks for any help!
